Boxing uses a variety of equipment for both training and competitions, the most popular piece for boxing training is a punch bag. There is an extensive range of punch bags available to buy a few of which are free standing and traditional punch bags. Sometimes deciding on a bag can be a challenge so read on to see what type of punch bag is right for you. The body shaped punch bags have either a flexible foam surface or a flesh like torso and these bags often will have LED targets to build quick co-ordination; this type of punch bag will often have 6 different height adjustments can be used with or without boxing gloves and therefore has become very popular with boxing trainers. The free standing bags are excellent for boxing trainers and competitors who have no where to hang a traditional punch bag. They are also practical for those who are kicking as well as punching during boxing training as the foam on free standing bags generally begin lower to the ground than a traditional punch bag would.
These punch bags have toughened webbing straps, sealed "D" rings and bag chains designed to prevent excessive bag swing and to enable the boxing trainer to hang the bag in position. The heavier the bag the less it will sway, some say that sway in a punch bag is good as it enables the boxer to practice his footwork but too much would mean less boxing and more moving. The bags range from 40lbs to 100lbs and should be selected according to the boxer’s height and weight. Along side the traditional punch bags are angled uppercut bags designed for perfect angled shots, hooks and uppercuts. These punch bags are ideal for developing body torque movements. There are also junior punch bags available and these bags are made from nylon fabric filled with cut up fabric to enable them to be softer; they come with hanging chains so the budding boxing champ can hang the bag easily and practice. |
